一笔鹤 One Stroke Crane, 1999
138 x 60 cm Chinese ink on rice paper. (sold)
J.D.’s one stroke crane is well known and widely appreciated since the 70’s. There is one version kept in the permanent collection of the Beijing Art Museum. The one stroke crane we see here is depicted by a bold, simple yet energetic stroke. We see softness and kindness in the eye of the crane. All the elements here embody the essence of Taoism: nature, simplicity, and the nourishing balance of Yin (black) and Yang (red)
